TORCHWOOD - THE VERDICT SO FAR

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Justin & John
It's the finale of Torchwood tonight and I must say am really liking this format of one episode a day. The four episodes so far have been very well written with the right balance of drama, horror and comedy.

It's been far better than the previous two series, although they may not be a 4th series because :

TORCHWOOD TOMORROW!

From the Daily Record newspaper :

"Anyone sceptical about the ability of Doctor Who reviver Russell T. Davies to make spin-off Torchwood equally compelling had best just admit they were wrong and clear their diaries for five nights.

"This new Torchwood adventure... sees Captain Jack and his team in brilliant form and promoted to BBC1.

"The drama racks up the tension better than anything we've seen since 24, building into a sheer tour de force, a sensational TV event that will keep you on edge, night after night.

"Spine-tinglingly creepy one minute, sexy or amusingly sarcastic the next, this is a story that lead writer Russell says he has wanted to do for a long time..."

THE DOCTOR'S NEW COMPANION!

New 'Doctor Who' companion announced

From www.digitalspy.co.uk

Friday, May 29 2009, 13:06 BST

By Neil Wilkes, Editor

New 'Doctor Who' companion announced

21-year-old Karen Gillan has been named as the new companion for series five of Doctor Who.

The Scottish actress will star alongside Matt Smith, who takes over from David Tennant as The Doctor in series five of the long-running cult show.

"I am absolutely over the moon at being chosen to play the Doctor's new companion," said Gillan. "The show is such a massive phenomenon that I can't quite believe I am going to be a part of it. Matt Smith is an incredible actor and it is going to be so much fun to act alongside him – I just can't wait to get started!"

Gillan previously appeared in Who as a soothsayer in the series four episode 'The Fires of Pompeii'. Her other credits include The Kevin Bishop Show, Rebus and Stacked.

Of Gillan's casting, new executive producer Steven Moffat said: "We saw some amazing actresses for this part, but when Karen came through the door the game was up. Funny, and clever, and gorgeous, and sexy. Or Scottish, which is the quick way of saying it. A generation of little girls will want to be her. And a generation of little boys will want them to be her too."

Rumoured contenders for the role of Matt Smith's assistant had included Lily Allen, Kelly Brook, Georgia Moffett and Skins star Hannah Murray.

Filming on the new series will begin in July for transmission around Easter 2010. Tennant's final episodes will air this Christmas.

DOCTOR WHO TO APPEAR BEFORE NOVEMBER!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Justin & John

This from www.bbc.co.uk

Tennant to appear in Who spin-off

David Tennant is to appear as the Time Lord in Doctor Who spin-off The Sarah Jane Adventures, the BBC has announced.

Tennant, 38, will appear over two episodes of a new 12-part series of the CBBC show, which starts in September.

Russell T Davies, executive producer of The Sarah Jane Adventures and Doctor Who, said it would be a "full on appearance" and "not just a cameo".

The show follows the adventures of the investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith - a former Doctor's companion.

Smith is played by actress Elisabeth Sladen, 61, who also played the character in Doctor Who opposite Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker between 1973 and 1976.

'Special treat'

Sladen said she was "absolutely over the moon" to be co-starring alongside Tennant.

"It's fantastic news that Sarah Jane is going to spend some time working with the Doctor again and is testament to just how successful this CBBC series is."

Russell T Davies talks Tennant's return

Davies said: "Viewers thought they may have to wait until November for the next full episode of Doctor Who, but this is an extra special treat.

"And it's not just a cameo from David.

"This is a full-on appearance for the Doctor as he and Sarah Jane face their biggest threat ever."

The third series of The Sarah Jane Adventures will feature monsters who want to infect earth and a "living painting".

Tennant is being replaced as Doctor Who by actor Matt Smith, 26, who will appear as the 11th Doctor next year.

Tennant will firstly appear in three specials, starting with The Waters of Mars in November.

Meanwhile, Doctor Who may be heading for the big screen after a spokeswoman for BBC Films confirmed that "a script is in development".

BBC entertainment correspondent Lizo Mzimba said there were no guarantees a film would be made and that, if the project went into full production, a release would be a long time away.

TORCHWOOD, NOW JULY?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

It would appear that the new series of Torchwood will be broadcast in July, not June as originally thought.

Apparently John Barrowman, who is currently on tour in the UK, has been telling audiences that it will be July and Russell T Davis also indicated July in a recent TV interview.

"NEW" MOODY BLUES DVD

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Justin & John

In 1970 The Moody Blues were at their creative and commercial peak. After reinventing themselves from their R&B roots to a much more sophisticated sound, between 1967 and 1970 they released five albums, four of which hit the Top 5 in the UK with two of them going to No.1.

They enjoyed similar success in the USA where four of the albums hit the Top 20 and the other was just outside. At the end of August 1970, shortly after the release of their album "A Question Of Balance", The Moody Blues took to the stage of the Isle Of Wight Festival in front of an audience estimated at over half a million. This DVD makes that performance available to be seen for the first time.

10cc AT THE CENTRAL THEATRE CHATHAM 2nd MAY 2009

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Justin & John
Had an excellent time at the 10cc concert in Chatham last night.

Original band member Graham Gouldman who has put this incarnation of 10cc together wrote many songs for other bands during the 1960's and in the first half hour we were treated to some of his songs that he had written. It was a wonderful acoustic set of glorious 60's music. This was the first time I've ever seen a band act as support for themselves!
You may not realise what great songs Graham wrote back then so here's what they played and who had hits with them!

Pamela, Pamela : Wayne Fontana http://www.last.fm/music/Wayne+Fontana/_/Pamela+Pamela

Heartfull of Soul : The Yardbirds http://www.last.fm/music/+noredirect/The+Yardbirds/_/Heartfull+of+Soul

Bus Stop : The Hollies http://www.last.fm/music/The+Hollies/_/Bus+Stop

No Milk Today : Herman's Hermits http://www.last.fm/music/Herman%27s+Hermits/_/No+Milk+Today

For Your Love : The Yardbirds http://www.last.fm/music/The+Yardbirds/_/For+Your+Love

Look Through Any Window : The Hollies http://www.last.fm/music/The+Hollies/_/Look+Through+Any+Window

There then followed a 20 minute break before the band returned this time with electric guitars, two keyboards and full drum set! (plus bongos, saxophone, etc!)

The 10cc set was the same as the last time I saw them in 2007 :

Wall Street Shuffle http://www.last.fm/music/10cc/_/The+Wall+Street+Shuffle
The Things We Do For Love http://www.last.fm/music/10cc/_/The+Things+We+Do+for+Love

I'm Not In Love http://www.last.fm/music/10cc/_/I%27m+Not+in+Love

Encore:
Ready To Go Home http://www.last.fm/music/10cc/_/Ready+to+Go+Home
Rubber Bullets http://www.last.fm/music/10cc/_/Rubber+Bullets

But they did include 4 additional songs :

From Rochdale to Ocho Rios (a personal favourite of mine!) http://www.last.fm/music/10cc/_/From+Rochdale+to+Ocho+Rios
The Second Sitting for the Last Supper http://www.last.fm/music/10cc/_/The+Second+Sitting+for+the+Last+Supper

Feel the Benefit http://www.last.fm/music/10cc/_/Feel%2BThe%2BBenefit%2B%2528Parts%2B1%252C%2B2%2B%2526%2B3%2B%2529

A wonderful evening of pure nostalgia and they received a deserved standing ovation.

* I've always loved Dreadlock Holiday and can't believe that I only found out today that the lyrics, about a white man lost in Jamaica, were based on a true event that happened to Moody Blues vocalist Justin Hayward and Eric Stewart in Barbados!

The current line up of 10cc is :

1. Graham Gouldman (Original 10cc band member)

2. Rick Fenn(Been with 10cc since 1976)

3. Paul Burgess(Original 10cc drummer)

4. Mick Wilson (Mike has worked for many years with Graham on both Vocals and Percussion)

5. Keith Hayman (Replacing Mike Stevens on this tour as he is working with Take That!)
